The complex discourse associated with the topic of Sustainability in Construction has reached new dynamics. While the regulatory and legal frameworks set strict conditions, consumers are increasingly focusing on the environmental aspects of building in both private and commercial construction projects.
This means that eco-consciousness and healthy living are becoming highly pertinent factors that can be true drive success drivers in the context of building and renovating. And this applies to the entire community of construction professionals from project developers, architects, planners and property developers right through to wholesale and specialist retail and the trades. Wood in its capacity of a renewable raw material plays an essential role in the decarbonization of the construction sector and wood-based building materials form an important pillar of the climate strategy.
In a recent survey, almost two-thirds of end customers stated that sustainability considerations played a role in their specific construction or renovation project within the past 12 months. More than half of the contestants see added value in the use of environmentally friendly materials and are willing to pay a higher price for them. At the same time, they are very willing to trust recommendations from experts. This represents both a confirmation of our continuous activities towards an even more sustainable offering and a promising opportunity for all of us.
At SWISS KRONO, we take innovation as a wholistic discipline with the goal of constantly optimizing the manufacturing our products in an even more environmentally friendly way and to develop future-proof wood-based solutions for all areas of living and working spaces. On the following pages, we are sharing what the responsible and sustainable production of wood-based materials means to us. You will also get to know a selection of our ecological and healthy living products.
We are particularly pleased that all of these products have been certified with the QNG-ready seal and are thus considered qualified materials for the promotion of building projects in accordance with the Quality Sustainable Buildings standard.
Sustainable Construction is a key pillar of the climate strategy - in which the natural resource wood plays a central role. The SWISS KRONO Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of wood products for interior design, flooring and building materials. We offer products of the highest quality and take our environmental responsibilities seriously.
The SWISS KRONO Group was founded in 1966 as a family-run business. Today, we employ around 5,000 people at ten production sites in eight countries around the world. This enables us to procure our resources regionally and minimize transport distances.
We are thoroughly committed to certified energy management processes, regenerative raw materials of sustainable origin and resource-saving manufacturing along the entire value chain. Up to 90% of the thermal energy we use is obtained from renewable sources, and we use recyclable raw materials wherever possible.
We are constantly investing in optimizing the environmental standards of our products and processes. We focus on high wood content, exceptional longevity and the highest standards of healthy living through the use of non-toxic glues and renunciation to plasticizers, biocides and chlorides. Through pioneering partnerships, we are able to efficiently decarbonize the manufacturing process.
With our broad offering in floor coverings, we are committed to providing highly functional wood-based solutions as a significantly more ecological and healthier alternative to fossil-material-based PVC or vinyl flooring.
We are proud to present three of our sustainable, highly functional and exceptionally robust products here.
Floor coverings from SWISS KRONO are made with a high proportion of wood and enable sustainable interior design on any budget.
Our durable floor coverings consist of a core board made of wood-based material and a decorative layer. Of course, the wood comes from sustainably managed forests. Our collections offer you plenty of choices for customized interior design – from a classic wood look to unusual stone and fantasy patterns.
Moving furniture, scuffs from shoes, children playing – floor coverings go through a lot. That’s why they come with a robust overlay which makes them hard-wearing, lightfast and easy to care for. The panels also have a high-quality underside finish that protects the wood core from moisture and keeps the floor covering dimensionally stable over the long term.
SWISS KRONO floor coverings areas resistant to adverse in-fluences as it is kind to people and the environment. Containing neither plasticizers nor biocides, it provides the perfect basis for a healthy home.
The product consists of at least 80% wood, a regenerative and one of the most environmentally friendly raw materials there is. Depending on the production site, we use at least 70% and up to 90% renewable energy for production. By thermally recycling residues from production, we further reduce our need for fossil fuels while also lowering the carbon footprint of our processes.
Are you looking for an attractive floor covering that’s easy on your budget – and on the environment? Then look no further.

COREPEL is the most robust designer floor with a wooden core: It is dimensionally stable, waterproof, and resistant to scratches and dents. And it’s the first floor ever to meet the requirements set out in the DEC standard.
COREPEL rises to the challenge in all areas of the home, no matter how heavily they are used. Soccer boots, pet claws, fitness equipment or humidity in a bathroom – you name it, they all leave zero trace. The secret of its resilience is the protective shell made of high-performance resin that encloses the natural wood core like an oyster shell around a pearl.
With a wood content of 50% (COREPEL Essence) or 80% (COREPEL Evolution), COREPEL contains the highest proportion of renewable raw materials of any water-resistant designer flooring. And this wood comes exclusively from responsibly managed and FSC- or PEFC-certified production facilities. This makes COREPEL the ultimate alternative to fossil-based PVC, vinyl and SPC floors.
Awards from recognized labels such as FloorScore, Greenguard Gold, VOC A+ and CARB2, not to mention the new DEC standard, all show that COREPEL is manufactured as part of an incredibly low-emission production process and ensures very good indoor air quality.
All COREPEL designer floors meet extraordinary standards of environmental friendliness. But we’re not about to rest on our laurels: We thrive to keep improving our products. The latest result is COREPEL Evolution. This innovative product has a carbon footprint at least 30% smaller than conventionally produced biocomposite flooring. This is thanks to Kauramin® BALANCE, a glue with biomass-balance-certified production using renewable energies and newly developed by our longstanding innovation partner BASF.
We are delighted to be the first supplier to reach this milestone on the way to decarbonizing the production of our wood-based materials. For ourselves, for you and your customers – and for our planet.
