Carpets are generally not suitable as a sub-floor for laying laminate.

You can attach laminate to walls as well. Either a substructure is required for this purpose or the panels are glued directly. But beware: When attached to walls, laminate flooring is deflected from its intended purpose. Upon doing so, the guarantee and warranty becomes null and void.
